About Us

Angie Yoder-Maina FounderBlack and Chocolate Labradors

English Labradors that are bred to be wonderful family companions with “fireside” temperaments, bid-able hunting partners in the field or blind, and compete in the specialty show ring. Established in 2011, Imani Kennels is located in Nairobi, Kenya. While we are a small, hobby kennel, we specialize in breeding beautiful English style Labradors that are sound of body, as well as, temperament. In the last few years we have imported several chocolate dogs from quality kennels in Canada, Poland and South Africa – in order to improve the chocolate lines here in Kenya.

Cute3Pugs are amazing little lovable dogs. Maina met Angi’s brother Drew’s pug several years ago and decided this was the dog breed for him. Thus Angi started to look for a quality pug bitch that we could import to Kenya. We could not find what we wanted in South Africa and started to explore with European and Indian breeders. In early 2015 we were given a chance to bring in a very nice female from one of India’s top Stud dogs and breeder, Baljit S. Bhullar.  And that is how we eventually brought our amazing Butter to Kenya. She is a world class puppy and carries Coral Bay, Tupelo, and Atlantis lines.  She is an amazing little “person” and it is hard to separate her and the girls.

We are now waiting for a black boy from our friend and breeder in South Africa, Warren Sims (Summersim) from the amazing Australian kennel of Kabova Kennels. We look forward to welcoming our new “J Jelly” to Kenya early next year! It is our hope that we with the help of other breeders will bring back the tradition of quality pugs to Kenya!

We have 1-2 litters per year. Our litters are all thought out and planned with health being our number one priority. All of our breeding stock are hip scored and are registered with the East Africa Kennel Club. Our puppies are purebred, registered and come with a four-generation pedigree certificate. They are only ready to go to their new homes between seven and eight weeks – vaccinated and dewormed.

Our litters are raised with our two children and are socialized very well! We offer lifelong support for our puppy owners. We have many return puppy buyers and are very happy to have these relationships and to be able to provide families with very well bred healthy Labradors (and eventually pugs). We do not participate in cross-breeding Labrador retrievers with other breeds to make designer dogs. We do one thing only and do it well! (See Puppy News)

We are members of the East African Kennel Club (EAKC) and the Labrador Retriever Club of East Africa (LRCEA).
